Will my new window tinting installation comply with Alabama State laws and regulations?
Tinting itself is not considered a moving violation. However, if your tint doesn’t comply with local regulations you could receive a citation. We can consult with you beforehand to ensure your tint selection meets Alabama’s rules.
Here are Alabama’s automotive tinting regulations:
- Windshield: Non-reflective tint allowed only above the manufacturer’s AS-1 line or the top 4 inches.
- Front side windows: Must allow more than 32% of light in (VLT ≥ 32%).
- Rear side windows: Must allow more than 18% of light in (VLT ≥ 18%).
- Rear window: Must allow more than 18% of light in (VLT ≥ 18%).
- Reflectivity: No more than 20% reflective, and the film cannot alter a person’s visible appearance.
- Side mirrors requirement: If the vehicle lacks side mirrors, the rear window must meet the 32% rule.
- Medical exemption available for certified conditions.
- Building film: These rules apply only to vehicles. Residential/commercial film is not restricted by state statute.
